This entry level kid’s class will introduce the basics of Modern Dance. Modern Dance originated in the early 1900s. It is a different kind of dancing from ballet. The first modern dance artists rebelled against the rigidity of ballet, and began experimenting with different forms of movement. Although balletic principles are prevalent in the structure of the technique, modern dance is more experimental with pedestrian movements encorporated. Unlike ballet, we will be utilizing floorwork as well as standing level dancing. Students will get the opportunity to experiment with improvisation as well! We will be working towards a Modern Dance recital piece to be performed in May.

Attire: comfortable clothes to move around in: leotards, fitted t-shirts, footless tights, leggings, sweatpants, bare feet.
