This beginner course is designed to excite students from grades 6 through 12 about the language and culture of German speaking countries and give them a foundation for continued study in high school or at the college level. Students will develop basic skills in the four modalities of language learning: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. At the end of the course, students will be able to introduce themselves, and answer simple questions about topics covered in the class, provide basic information in writing, recognize and understand spoken expressions in conversation, and understand short, simple texts.
As a native speaker the instructor focuses the lessons on conversational German, but also emphasizes the grammar and written work. The class will balance fundamental important language work with interesting topics for young teenager students that they might encounter during travel, news, or daily life. The students will also learn about history, geography, culture, holidays and traditions of Germany.
