171 Cedar Arts Center is joining the Rockwell Museum and other local arts organizations to celebrate the life and work of Frida Kahlo. 171 is offering a series of four workshops between October 2022 and January 2023 for children and adults. From ceramics to visual arts, there will be a workshop for everyone. Viva la Vida!

Explore the art of needle-felting as you create a small, tactile sculpture of Frida Kahlo. In this fun, one-day workshop with Cynthia Cratsley, you will learn how to use felted wool and a special barbed needle to create a 3-D doll. Needle felting is a craft that involves repeatedly stabbing a needle into a piece of wool in order to stiffen and shape it into the desired form.

The class will be using locally-sourced materials including wool from local sheep dyed by a local dyer. The cost of the class includes all supplies: the felted wool, a leather finger protector, and needles. The finger protector and needles will be yours to take home.
