Beginners welcome!

At least 1 session of dance class in any style mandatory.

In Dance Makers Camp (6-11) students will be introduced to the basics of creating a dance, and work towards showing a collaborative piece at the end of the camp session. We will work together as a class to create our performance dance piece in a safe and welcoming environment. No previous choreographic experience necessary!

Class will be divided into: a warm up class based in modern and jazz style, improvisational games, viewing famous pieces in dance history, choreography experiments and exercises, and working towards a dance making performance.

Students will be introduced to the basics of experimental choreography, including dancing outside or in non traditional environments, experimenting with text, spoken word, music, and different sounds.

All of the tools to create a dance will be provided in class, no need to bring any pre-choreographed material!

Please bring: comfortable clothes that you can move in, clothes you can move outside in the grass in (weather allowing), snacks for snack time, and plenty of water!

9:00-10:00 warm up/ technique

10:00-10:15 snack/water break

10:15-10:40 improvisation/ games

10:40-11:00 dance history

11:00-12:00 choreography exercises/ dance making

Friday at 12:00 an informal showing of our created piece at 171 Cedar Arts Center

In the event of unforeseen circumstances, 171 reserves the right to make any necessary changes to our summer camp programming or to cancel a session due to low enrollment.
