Instructor: Sage Ulrich
This workshop is geared towards choreography beginners, but dancers of all choreographic experience levels will be able to enjoy the generating and framing exercises. Students need not come prepared with any pre-choreographed work, as we will be generating everything in class. We will be learning how to create our own dance phrases and then how to stage them for a hypothetical performance. We will be playing with different choreographic techniques that are foundational for developing dance material such as: retrograding, tempo changes, level changes, performative quality, etc. This class will focus on generating material, playing with and expanding upon that material, editing it according to your own choreographic desires, and framing it in a site-specific setting that interests you. Students will come away from this workshop with a toolbox of foundational techniques and strategies to help them with their own choreographic practice.
Bring extra warm dance clothes in case you would like to set your piece outside!
