pARTners: 171 and West End Gallery featuring the work of Brian Keeler

171 Cedar Arts Center in collaboration with West End Gallery will display vibrant, large scale oil paintings by Brian S. Keeler starting November 30. The exhibition, entitled Luminous Lakes, features a selection of Keuka and Seneca Lake paintings and will show until January 2019.

171 Cedar Arts Center kicks off the exhibit on Friday, November 30 during Corning’s Urban Arts Crawl. 171 will offer light hors d’oeuvre, beverage, and live music during the opening reception. Music provided by Zingology featuring Ted Caldwell on stand-up bass, Sue Smith on chromatic harmonica, Joanna Green on violin, Doug Robinson on guitar, Brian Keeler on guitar and Art Godin on guitar will play throughout the evening. The opening reception is from 5 to 8 PM.

Keeler explains, “This show at 171 Cedar Arts Center is a collection of recent plein air and studio works focusing on the beauty of Seneca and Keuka Lakes. The title of this show, Luminous Lakes, suggests my interest in painting the ephemeral effects of light and atmosphere as it plays on and describes the topography of these landscapes.”

Keeler who currently resides in Ithaca, NY, maintains a studio in his hometown of Wyalusing, PA. He primarily devotes his time to painting landscapes, still lifes, figures, and portraits in oil, pastel, and watercolor. In 2016-17 a retrospective of 95 paintings by Keeler were displayed in the Sears Harkness Gallery at the Roberson Museum in Binghamton, NY. A catalog and documentary DVD were produced to commemorate the exhibit.

Keeler’s paintings are represented at the following galleries – Laura Craig Gallery in Scranton, West End Gallery in Corning, NY, The Argosy Gallery in Bar Harbor, Maine and the FAN Gallery in Philadelphia, PA.

Jesse Gardner from West End Gallery, which has represented Keeler for nearly 25 years, is excited by the upcoming exhibition proclaiming, “This is one of Brian’s most incredible exhibits. We live in such a beautiful region and his depictions of Keuka and Seneca Lakes are absolutely breathtaking!”

“It has been an honor working in pARTnership with 171. It is important to understand the benefits of arts organizations working together. In this case, West End Gallery has an additional venue in which to showcase the stunning works of Brian S. Keeler. Brian is gaining additional exposure and another platform to share his beautiful works of art.”
