Music – Clarinet
Clarinetist Richard MacDowell has taught and performed extensively throughout the United States and abroad. Currently he is on the faculty at Mansfield State University in Mansfield, PA and Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. He is an active soloist, chamber and orchestral musician, and clinician. His study and degrees are from the Eastman School of Music, the New England Conservatory, Northwestern University, and Florida State University. He has studied clarinet with Robert Marcellus, Stanly Hasty, Leon Russianoff, and Fred Ormand. He is one of the strongest pedagogues in the Marcellus and Hasty traditions. He is recently retired from the University of Texas at Austin, where he was the clarinet professor for 21 years. Before Texas, he taught at the Interlochen Arts Academy at Interlochen, Michigan. Locally, he has been the sabbatical replacement for both clarinet professors at Ithaca College.
