Mary Kathryn Campbell

Piano

Mary Kay is a lifelong pianist, teacher and collaborative musician.  She has been teaching students to play the piano for over 25 years in the Southern Tier of New York. Believing that children teach us much about how they learn, she tailors her teaching style to fit the piano journey of each student. Mary Kay is the recipient of Steinway Top Teacher Awards in 2018 and 2020 for excellence in teaching and commitment to the piano profession. She welcomes into her studio students ages 5 to adult and teaches beginners as well as advancing players.

Her first piano performance opportunities were in her native Pittsburgh region, including selection to attend the Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Arts.  She continued with her musical experiences as a soloist, pipe organist and collaborative musician to include work as an accompanist for NYSSMA Solo and Choral Festivals, Mansfield State University Concert Choir, Elmira Choral Society and MSU Opera Workshop in addition to recitals with vocal and instrumental soloists. She has played for college, community and high school musical theatre productions in the Southern Finger Lakes, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Raleigh, NC regions.

Mary Kay holds an undergraduate degree in piano/music education from Mansfield State University, a graduate degree in education from Elmira College with additional graduate music studies at Ithaca College and Westminster Choir College.  As a certified music educator, she taught music in the Elmira and Horseheads School Districts. Retired from public education in 2012 she now focuses her musical energies on private teaching and piano pedagogy projects.  Mary Kay is currently composing a collection of piano works, designed to enhance the skill development of beginner to intermediate pianists.
