171 Cedar Arts Center’s Houghton Gallery is one of the area’s premier visual arts venues. The gallery presents engaging work by contemporary artists, primarily from New York State.

Exhibitions, opening receptions, and gallery talks are free of charge. Special lectures and group tours can be arranged.

The Studio of the Corning Museum of Glass
on view in the Houghton Gallery at 155 Cedar Street from May 24 – July 12, 2024.

The Opening Reception will be on May 24 from 5 – 7 PM. Remarks at 5:30 PM

Transparency is a collaborative exhibition conceived in partnership between 171 and The Studio of The Corning Museum of Glass. This juried exhibit features the work of 18 contemporary glass artists from Corning, NY, and the surrounding region. For more than 150 years, the city of Corning has been a center of glass production, industrial development, technology, and artistic innovation. Today, Corning remains a global epicenter of glassmaking and the glass arts.

The Studio has played an important role within the Museum and the extended community for more than 25 years. It has provided accessible pathways for people to create, learn, and experience glass through a variety of classes, residencies, and hands-on glass making experiences. This exhibition showcases local artists who are affiliated with The Studio as either instructors, assistants, or through rented studio space.

The glass objects on view here represent a rich variety of techniques, styles, and conceptual approaches to the medium. Each of the fine artists featured here calls the Finger Lakes home, and we are pleased to present new works by:

171 Cedar Arts Center is a dynamic organization that enriches the community by offering exceptional arts instruction, contemporary art exhibits, and live performances. The Arts Center is in two historic buildings at 155 and 171 Cedar Street, in the heart of Corning, NY. The Houghton Gallery is located at 155 Cedar Street.
