171 Cedar Arts Center presents TRANSPARENCY | A juried exhibition featuring glass artists of The Studio of Corning Museum of Glass on view in the Houghton Gallery at 155 Cedar Street from May 24 – July 12, 2024.

The Opening Reception will be on May 24 at 6 pm.

Transparency is a collaborative exhibition conceived in partnership between 171 and The Studio of The Corning Museum of Glass. This juried exhibit features the work of 18 contemporary glass artists from Corning, NY, and the surrounding region. For more than 150 years, the city of Corning has been a center of glass production, industrial development, technology, and artistic innovation. Today, Corning remains a global epicenter of glassmaking and the glass arts.

The Studio has played an important role within the Museum and the extended community for more than 25 years. It has provided accessible pathways for people to create, learn, and experience glass through a variety of classes, residencies, and hands-on glass making experiences. This exhibition showcases local artists who are affiliated with The Studio as either instructors, assistants, or through rented studio space.

The glass objects on view here represent a rich variety of techniques, styles, and conceptual approaches to the medium. Each of the fine artists featured here calls the Finger Lakes home, and we are pleased to present new works by:
