Somewhere Else and Almost Never Here
Somewhere Else and Almost Never Here. Aguapanela, mogolla, ruana, amapolas. Green mountains, blue mountains, orange mountains mountains of trash, mountains under mountains of bodies and sights. My grandfather’s grandfather never got down from the mountains, my grandmother’s grandmother didn’t move farther than one kilometer from the beach. I live somewhere else and almost never here. About the Artist: Laura Lucía Sanz was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia. She received her BA in Visual Art from Javeriana University in Bogotá in 2012. Later that year, Laura moved to the U.S. to pursue an MFA in Painting at Syracuse University, graduating in 2015. She currently works out of her studio in Corning, NY were she maintains daily practice that consists of painting and drawing, but also explores sculpture and ceramics. She has exhibited her work locally, and all over the U.S., from New York City to San Francisco, as well as abroad in Bogota, Colombia; Hamburg, Germany; and Barcelona, Spain. Her main artistic interest is in the process of painting – using color and texture to create moments of contemplation, play, and connection. Dreamy images of nudes, animals, gardens, and exotic landscapes are a bridge for the viewer to enter the images, before falling into the visceral nature of the painted surface.
